“G” crochet hook

Chain 24. Don’t chain too tight because you won’t be able to pick up the “bumps” on the first row. Below I’ve singled out a “bump”

Row 1: In the “bump” of the chain, single crochet in each bump to the end.  Chain 1 and turn

Row 2: Using only the back loop, work single crochet in each stitch across to end. 23 stitches. 

(Count them!) Chain 1 and turn.

Row 3: Insert the hook in the back loop and then go down and also pick up the loop below it (its kind of on a slant) Single crochet those loops and in each across making 23 stitches. 

At this point, it looks kind of like a “triangle-ly cord”. Don’t worry, it will flatten out as you go.

Tip: When you’re ready to turn, chain 1, but do the first stitch before you turn. You kind of work this from the top down and the first stitch is hard to find. AND the last stitch is difficult to figure out. I just fake it.

Continue doing Row 3 until you have a square potholder.

Final Row: After chaining 1 and turning, Insert hook through both front AND back loop and then the free loop below (three loops) and single crochet in each the same way to the end.

Tie off and you’re done!
